As the days drug on Vanity found herself settling into Daikoku a little better. She still hated it, but she at least had people to hang out with whether she skipped classes or not. She already had gained quite a reputation at the school, even though she barely spoke to anyone she didn't want to associate herself with. Then again she wasn't too surprised, as the only American student with a unique sense of style, she stood out a lot. Because of that she often got mixed reactions from people.
While the most common definitely was people avoiding her, already marking her down as a delinquent, she also had a few admirers. She was told by a few of her friends they were referred as 'Gaijin Hunters'. Basically they wanted her for the plain fact she was white. While it wasn't too bad, most were too shy to approach her personally, it was still annoying. She liked being adored, but not by men. In certain situations she didn't mind to talk and be friends with guys, but all together she wasn't too fond of them.
Men just weren't her thing. Even as a lesbian she had too many experiences with fuck boys. Not to mention she had seen plenty of guys play women and cheat on them, and that just left a bad taste in her mouth. Vanity would be the first to admit she was not a good person, but she would never cheat. After talking to that girl on the rooftop, it was clear to Vanity that Japanese men were no different than the fuck boys back home.
Vanity sighed as she heard the lunch bell ring, and looked over at her friend Ami who sat beside her. Ami was one of the few people she had met that she didn't care to hang around, mostly because she was about as cynical and a bully as much as Vanity was. Not only that but Ami was one of the only other lesbians she had met since coming to Japan. Even though she wasn't ready to be in another relationship, Vanity didn't have a problem with having sex. And since Ami didn't want to be in a relationship either, they had a nice friends with benefits thing going on.
At the moment the two sat on one of the benches outside, smoking and chatting. Vanity stretched her arms above her head as she spoke,
"Wanna head into town for some food?" The two rarely ate at the school, mostly because they didn't want to be around the student body of losers. Ami thought about it as she filed her chipped blue nails, before shrugging,
"Eh, I think we shouldn't today. One of the shops called the school about us skipping. My dad found out and tore my ass." Vanity frowned and shook her head, Ami came from a relatively abusive home. So it was highly possibly that by 'tore' she meant 'beat'.
"What an asshole. Do you know which shop? We could break their windows tonight for snitching."
"Heh, I wish. They were anonymous though, so I have no idea who it was. Anyway, lets just hit up the vendors around campus, I'm hungry." Vanity inwardly groaned, but had to admit she was hungry too. Plus the food the vendors sold were actually pretty good, and she could usually find something she liked. She jerked on her leather jacket she had brought because it had been chilly that morning and the two began to walk to the middle of the campus.
It wasn't a surprise that the place was crowded, but Vanity felt annoyed as she felt people immediately began to stare at her. It wasn't like she didn't like being the center of attention, be she could always tell who was judging her. She begrudgingly stuck her hands in her pocket and looked at Ami,
"Who do you think they're going to stare at more, you or me?" While Vanity was overly goth an sex on legs, Ami was Ganguro. This meant that not only was she much darker skinned than her classmates, she also had the bleach blonde hair and heavy makeup to match. She smirked and shrugged,
"Can you blame them? Compared to us they're so bland and sexless. Would it kill them to pick up a fashion magazine?" Vanity snickered and they continued to walk through the area, making fun of whoever they wished. Finally Vanity spotted a vendor selling Taiyaki, one of her favorite snacks and tugged on Ami's arm.
"Lets get some Taiyaki, I'll buy." Ami thought about it before shaking her head,
"You go ahead, I want to get some Takoyaki." She pointed to the opposite side of the clearing where the vendor was, and Vanity nodded,
"Aight. I'll meet you by the entrance then and we can go the machine for drinks. Ami agreed before unlocking their arms and walking off. Vanity then headed towards her own food stand and frowned when she saw the relatively long line. From the looks of it it would take a good ten minutes before she could get her food, and she didn't really like the thought.
Rolling her eyes she walked past the line, and then hip checked the girl in front out of her way before she could order. The vendor himself looked horrified, but Vanity already knew he wouldn't say anything. The Japanese were the type to never butt into these things, and even though the girl she pushed out of the way looked offended, Vanity knew she was too scared to say anything either. She was surprised, though, to hear someone behind her speak up.
"Hey, you can't do that. It's first come first serve you know." Vanity set her jaw and turned around to face the guy who dare say anything to her. She wrinkled her nose at him, he was about her height and had light brown hair, and looked very annoyed.
"Does it look like I care, loser?"
"Not really, kinda like how you don't care how awful your appearance is. This school has a dress code for a reason, maybe you should pick up a school handbook and read it." Vanity did not appreciate the attitude she was getting from this guy, and the students behind him seem to sense her irritation as they all began to disperse. Vanity smirked and pushed the guy,
"Dress codes are stupid, and I'll sooner kill myself before I follow one. If you're smart you'll shut up before I knock your teeth down your throat." The guy didn't seem very threatened and rolled his eyes,
"Disgusting. It's almost sad that you're so stereotypical. Girls like you are so-"
"So what?" Vanity glared at him and took a step closer, daring him to finish his sentence. Before he could, however, the two were interrupted by Ami, who had already got her got her food and had come over when she noticed the commotion.
"What's going on here?" She easily took notice of Vanity's pissed off attitude and developed one of her own. The guy looked at her and shook his head,
"Why am I not surprised you two are friends?"
"What's it to you, Yagami?" Ami glared at him as well.
"Nothing, it's just unfortunate that decent people have to share a space with delinquents like you. If you guys hate this place so much, why are you even here?" Ami was about to argue back but Vanity stopped her, realizing something,
"Wait, Yagami? As in Light Yagami?" The guy, Light, raised an eyebrow,
"Yes? Why?" Vanity felt slight rage go through her body, and her glare became even more icy.
"So you're the fucking prick who likes to mess with girls, huh? Wow, and you say I fit my stereotype? You're classic "Banana-Nerd Fuck Boy" if I've ever seen one." Light looked a little taken aback now, and Ami looked up at Vanity curiously. Vanity didn't let up and continued her verbal attack,
"I mean seriously! You think you're a decent person? You're worse than I am! What kind of asshole cheats on their girlfriend?! That's fucked up on so many levels! Ugh! And all because you think you're so good looking, right?" At this point a crowd had gathered around them, and Vanity nodded some of the girls cheering her on.
"What do you know? You're just a street thug. You don't know what you're talking about. So can you take your gross girlfriend and leave?" Ami looked a little offended and Vanity froze,
"What the fuck did you say?"
"I said, take your gross girl-" Before Light could finished Vanity punched him square in the face. He let out a sound of pain and fell to his knees, clutching his nose.
"That's for Ami, and this," She kicked him hard, finally hearing his nose crack, "is for Maki. If I ever hear you disrespect another girl I swear I'll beat your ass." The crowd began to panic a little and Vanity heard one of them saying they were going to get a teacher, which was Vanity's cue to go. She grabbed Ami's arm and pulled her away, and the two ended up exiting the school.
After they were a block away they stopped to catch their breath, afterwards Ami handed Vanity some Takoyaki, smirking a little,
"I can't believe you just beat up the most popular guy in school." Vanity grunted and took a bit of the food, biting into it casually,
"He deserved it. The fucking asshole."
"Yeah but still." Ami laughed before kissing the taller girl's forehead, "Thanks for protecting my honor."
Vanity blushed but shook it off, smirking herself, "Yeah yeah, don't let it go to your head."
"Who's Maki by the way? Another girlfriend?" Vanity shook her head as the two began to walk down the sidewalk,
"No. I mean she's cute but she's obviously straight. I met her a few days ago on the roof, she's pretty nice. She just broke up with Light, he cheated on her." Ami nodded, understanding, before wrapping her arm around Vanity's,
"She's not cuter than me though, right? I'm your super cute best friend, don't forget it." Vanity rolled her eyes playfully,
"What did I say about letting it going to your head?" As the two laughed and continued to walk into town, Vanity wondered if Maki would ever hear about what happened, but then shook it off. The two would probably never even speak again, but Vanity hoped she would be pleased at Light getting his ass handed to him.
