An Unexpected Meeting
She looked okay for his first robbery. Silas stared across the park at a young girl with multicolored hair who wore a black leather jacket, frilly red skirt, and fish nets. She looked edgy but not nearly as edgy as the girl she was with. He figured he could take her if he got caught and could probably
get away from the taller girl due to the fact he'd started losing weight and also because he was shorter. This should mean he'd be faster than her, right? That's what he'd heard.
He inhaled and exhaled deeply as he mentally prepared himself for what he was about to do before making his way over to them. They were momentarily distracted by mindless chatter so he assumed this would be fairly easy. Once he got close enough, he carefully stuck his hand in her purse and began to fish around for a couple bucks or two. The girl with the red hair stumbled with her words, noticing something felt off, and turned her head to look at the smaller boy. She glared immediately and dug her hands into his

A Job Offer
The bass boosted music vibrated through out the club as Vanity tossed back another shot. She was glad the place didn't really card anyone, they obviously didn't care. Vanity had seen quite a few other teenagers as well, and was amused how childish they looked compared to her. Vanity had a talent for making herself look older than she actually was, so instead of appearing 17 she looked almost 21. It gave her a sense of pride and, as always, filled up her ego.

Schoolyard Fight
As the days drug on Vanity found herself settling into Daikoku a little better. She still hated it, but she at least had people to hang out with whether she skipped classes or not. She already had gained quite a reputation at the school, even though she barely spoke to anyone she didn't want to associate herself with. Then again she wasn't too surprised, as the only American student with a unique sense of style, she stood out a lot. Because of that she often got mixed reactions from people.
While the most common definitely was people avoiding her, already marking her down as a delinquent, she also had a few admirers. She was told by a few of her friends they were referred as 'Gaijin Hunters'. Basically they wanted her for the plain fact she was white. While it wasn't too bad, most were too shy to approach her personally, it was still annoying. She liked being adored, but not by men. In certain situations she didn't mind to talk and be friends with guys, but all together she wasn't too

Making Friends
The sun was bright over Daikoku, and it was a relatively warm day as students sat inside and did their studies. All except for one. Despite being there for months now, and being yelled at and scolded by multiple teachers, Vanity still refused to go to most of her classes, and would spend her time with the school's other delinquents. Today, however, she was by herself. It seemed her "friends" had decided to hang out in the city today, and she didn't want to go through the trouble of having to sneak off school grounds. So she occupied herself by sitting on the rooftop, having another smoke. Cigarettes were scatter around her feet and she wondered how long it would be before she had lung cancer.
It seemed she hadn't really adjusted to her life in Japan. Sure, her Japanese had improved immensely, and she had been able to find her own crowd and a few girlfriends, but she still felt...empty. She missed L.A., she missed her friends, and she missed Emily...As her mind traveled back to the blon

Death Note Prologue - Enter Vanity
Vanity glared out the window as her cousin's blue corvette pulled up in front of Daikoku Private Academy, watching as giddy school girls and annoying boys were making their way inside. She turned her head away and crossed her arms, sinking even farther into the leather seats. Bella turn off the ignition and looked over at Vanity with a knowing look. Her temper tantrums were famous, and one was definitely coming on. Before Bella could speak, Vanity did,
"This is fucking stupid."
"I know."
"I don't want to do this."
"You've told me."
"Take me back to your place."
"Not happening, and it's your house now too, you know." Vanity flinched and laid the side of her head against the glass. Bella sighed laid her head back against the seat, trying to choose her words carefully.
"Look, I know this has been a tough week for you-" Vanity snorted, but Bella pressed on, "but I really need you to make an effort here. I'm trying, I need you to try too."
Vanity didn't say anything, deciding to lament on h

Warning
"Ey, dollface, another drink over here!" Farrah nodded, almost not hearing the man's voice over the pounding music, and quickly reached under the bar to grab two more glasses. After she slid them to the man and his companion she grabbed the correct nozzle. Their drinks weren't too complicated so she was done in a matter of seconds. She usually wasn't the one tending the bar, but Winter had called in sick. Farrah didn't mind though, in fact it was almost easier than working the floor.
It was only a matter of weeks before Farrah would be able to quit her job, for good. Despite her earlier pleas, she had finally let Ratchet buy her family a new apartment. It was a pretty nice one, there was a lot more room in it. Susie and Toby finally had their own room, the twins still had there, and Farrah had taken the last one. Her dad still had to sleep on a couch, but he really didn't seem to care. She suppose he was more comfortable there.

Macey entered the B&T after her training was finished. She was supposed to spend the night with Farrah after her shift and she was supposed to be getting off early tonight so Macey decided she'd give her a ride back to the house. She scanned the crowded club until she spotted the small girl serving food and drinks to two guys who already looked drunk off their ass. She smirked before picking an empty table close to them and pounding her fist on the table.
"Ey lady! Can I get a drink over here or what?" She smirked as she waited for the other girl to notice. Farrah let out a small noise of disgust before turning around, expecting another already drunk patron, but was pleasantly surprised when she saw Macey. She hasn't expected to see the woman here, but wasn't particularly bothered by it either.
"Aw come on sweetheart, eyes on me!" The man she was serving whined, and Farrah rolled her eyes, promptly telling him to shove it before walking over to her friend.

Crazy Exes
"Thank you~" Reighley and Roselyna's voiced melted into one as the addressed the small crowd that had formed around them. It seemed that their performances had gotten a lot better. The best thing about being so far from Earth was that no one seemed to know of any of its media. Because of this whenever the twins performed anything from there, especially Japanese centered, it always got a big crowd.
Roselyna supposed they didn't have to keep doing performances anymore. They were extremely well off now. It seemed that their older sister's boyfriend, Ratchet, had finally convinced her to move into a new apartment. The apartment was a lot bigger than what they originally lived in, and it was a lot closer to the lombax too. Roselyna was surprised that Farrah had agreed, but also pleased. Roselyna liked having Ratchet around, he was like a real life uncle!
They had lived in the new apartment for about two weeks, and so far both twins enjoyed. Plus Roselyna had over heard Farrah talking about

Farrah let out a small noise as she rolled over, enjoying the warmth that had seemed to enveloped her. She couldn't remember the last time she had slept that well, then again she knew exactly what had caused her to sleep so well. She felt the heat rush to her face and opening her eyes she saw Ratchet's face only a few inches from her. She couldn't help but smile at how peaceful and cute he looked, and became slightly more flustered remembering the previous night's events.
She had no idea it would go that far. Did she regret? Not really. She already knew what her feelings for the lombax were and had came to accept them. She just hoped he wouldn't think she was easy... Considering her job and how easily she had been persuaded to come home with him. She felt a little bad she had abandoned poor Nefarious at her apartment. She hoped he wasn't worried. the secret and the healing chapter 2
When Matthew thought of extra credit, he didn't think that meant helping set up the science fair in the gym. Not only that but he also had to make a project for it too. All of his teachers had agreed to this and refused to give him anything else. So, here he was, in the gym, hanging up posters. They usually held the science fair months before the end of the school year and usually only the really nerdy kids and teacher's pets participated. Which was what Matthew felt like right now. It was humiliating… As he climbed down from the latter, he heard a voice call out to him. “Wow, who's this nerd?” Matthew already knew who it was but turned around anyway to see a smirking Burke staring back at him. “Shut up. You know I'm being forced to do this.” Burke shrugged. “Either way, it's pretty comical.” Matthew rolled his eyes before heading over to the table full of posters and decorations to get more things to hang. “So, when do you think you'll b

“Matt, I work at a hospital, I can't be home 24/7 to make sure you do your work. You're getting old enough where you should know to do it yourself.” This was the nagging Matthew endured from Diane when he came home from school, which was exactly why he didn't want to come home. After returning to school from the weekend, his teachers had informed him that he was close to failing and had also took the liberty of calling his aunt to tell her the same news. Now this was what he'd heard since walking in the door. “I know and I promise to do better.”
“It's too late for promises now! You're already failing!” Diane sighed and pinched the bridge of her nose as Matthew stared at her, waiting for what she was going to say next. “Okay, look. Tomorrow, when you go back, ask your teachers if there is any extra credit you can do. I don't care if it'll just raise your grade a little bit, as long as you don't fail. But you HAVE to do it, okay? This is your las

“God bless you all!” Savannah shouted as she handed out flyers to the people who walked by her church. Matthew rolled his eyes as he and Burke walked past on the opposite sidewalk. Thankfully she didn't see them due to the people coming up and taking flyers but he knew if she did, they would never get away. He'd met her in middle school and once she found out he was bisexual, she'd been trying to convert him to her religion. Of course it never worked but it didn't stop her from trying. “I hope when the time comes, and the world ends, God comes down and tells all the Christians everything they were doing was wrong,” Burke said as he smirked at Matthew. “Yeah, me too,” Matthew replied as he smirked back. Normally he tried not to shit on religion but when it came to Savannah, he couldn't help it. It was people like her who gave Christians a bad name in the first place. “No, I mean, really think about it. Can't you just see their faces when they fi

She glared immediately and dug her hands into his arm,

"Hey you little shit!" Silas looked up at her with wide eyes and tried to pull his arm away but to no avail. "Let go of me you bitch!" He snarled, trying to look intimidating. She looked over at her friend, who started laughing, and then rolled her eyes.

"Sweetheart, please, you think you can scare someone like me with ugly ass hair like that?" She roughly threw him back, "I suggest you fuck off before I have to beat your skinny white ass."

"Do it anyway, brat deserves it. Where's his mommy anyway?" The other girl sneered. Silas glared up at them from where he sat on the ground. He was beginning to feel a little scared and kind of wanted to back down but upon hearing them mock his hair, decided not to. Granted it did look ugly but he wasn't going to let people pick on him. Not anymore. He stood up and lunged towards the redheaded girl. The girl seemed a little bit surprised but quickly side stepped him, giggling as he almost lost his balance, and then reached over and yanked him back by the hair,

"Wow kid, you're really pushing your luck with me. Do you know who I am or what I do?" She yanked his back even more to look up at her, "I can make you disappear you know. Poof, gone, forever." Silas struggled against her grip as he felt tears fill his eyes, though he refused to let the girl see. He hadn't thought that the girl would know how to defend herself and honestly didn't know how he was going to get out of this. Finally, he came up with a solution and ended up using all his strength to headbutt her in the face.

She let go of him, holding her nose and looking genuinely surprised, before her face took on a darker looker. The girl that was with her smirked and pulled out her phone, "Well kid, you done fucked up now."

Before she could elaborate on what she meant, the red head grabbed Silas by the throat roughly, forcing him to the ground, and began punching him. "Is this what you wanted you little brat?! Thought you could fuck with me?!"

"Yeah make him swallow his teeth!" Silas tried to fend her off but to no avail. He eventually just accepted the fact that this girl was going to kill him and dump his body God knows where. Though, who would really notice anyway?

After a few minutes the girl stopped, breathing heavily. Her friend put her phone away, seemingly done recording, "So, what are we going to with him?" The red head stood up, wiping a bit of Silas' blood off her face,

"Nothing? I'm down for killing kids. Even if they deserve it." She offered a hand out to Silas, "Get up. We need to get you cleaned up." Silas stared at her, honestly surprised she had allowed him to live, before taking her hand and letting her pull him up.

"Ugh, seriously? Lame! I'm not a babysitter, I'll meet you back at the hotel." The other girl rolled her eyes before walking off, and the red her shook her head.

"Sorry, she's kinda a bitch. I'm Vanity, by the way." She reached into her purse and pulled out a few tissues, damping them with some water from a nearby water bottle. Then she began to wipe his face off,

"You're pretty ballsy, you know. It's not smart to steal from obvious thugs." Silas flinched when the wet tissue touched his face but didn't try to stop her.

"I was trying to prove I could stand on my own and also make a quick buck.  I didn't know you were a thug, though," he smirked a little. "That's kinda cool."

"No, child, it's not." She threw the tissue to the ground and got a new one, "This isn't exactly a glamorous life. Imagine having to fight people stronger than me, all the time. Did you really need money that bad?"

"Yeah. I need to buy some stuff from a guy to help me lose weight," Silas averted his eyes as he said this before looking back at her and smiling a bit.

"But that kinda stuff makes you tougher, right? Fighting dudes that are bigger than you. I wanna be tough." Vanity blinked, surprised by how nonchalant the kid was.

"Lose weight? You look fine to me. You look healthy for a kid your age." She had finally finished wiping the blood off his face and grimaced by how bruised his face was. She hadn't meant to go that far, "Sorry...I kinda fucked you up more than intended.."

Silas seemed uncomfortable about the comment she had made about his weight but recovered and shrugged. "Eh, no one will care anyway and I won't report you to the cops. I'll just say I ran into the wall or something if they ask."

"Dude that's fucking depressing." Vanity hopped up onto the park table, sitting on it. "I get it though. Not many people care about me either. Come sit, I wanna give you some advice."

Silas didn't hesitate and did what she asked. Most people in his situation wouldn't exactly be so trusting and nice to the person who just beat their face in but he felt like he could learn a thing or two from her and actually kinda liked her taste in clothes. Maybe he would start dressing more like that. Well, minus the skirt, of course.

"Look, I come from a pretty shitty home situation, so I get where you're coming from. Take it from me though, this is not a path you want to go down. I'm not going to sit here and nag you, I'm not that type of person, but I will tell you this at least once. This life is dark, it's shitty, and it's dangerous. Once you're in, you can't leave." She dug around in her purse and pulled out a ten dollar bill, before handing it to him,

"I'm not condoning you buying pills either, but at least this will save you from getting your ass kicked again." Silas stared down at the money for a minute, surprised, before taking it.

"Thanks, Vanity. I owe you one," he smiled a little and stuck it in his pocket.

"Nah, don't worry about it. I'm only in town for two more days." She shrugged and smiled, ruffling his hair a bit,

"You want me to fix this mop? I'm pretty good with hair?" Silas giggled a little at the action before nodding.

"Yeah, that would be nice." Vanity gently turned him around and pulled out a small pair of scissors from her bag, and began cutting the odd ends. Silas examined the dollar bill as she did so. He probably shouldn't be letting her do this but his mom already knew he'd cut it and had already expressed her distaste so he saw it as having nothing else to lose.
It took about an hour for Vanity to make the hair look half way decent, and afterwards she brushed away all the left over hair. "

There ya go, I could have done it better if I had more equipment, but this looks way better." Silas lightly touched it as he turned back to face her before smiling in approval.

"Good enough. Thanks."

"Welcome! I should have a talk with your mom, that's shitty she'd let you walk around like that!" Silas rubbed his arm and averted his eyes.

"She basically said it was my punishment for ruining my only good feature..."

"What? What the fuck even? I think you're pretty cute." Silas blushed but looked away so Vanity couldn't see.

"Please, I've seen rocks cuter than me."

"I doubt that. A little self confidence will get you far." She flipped her hair as if she proved her point. Silas wasn't sure how she remained so confident despite the world having shown her it didn't care for her too but admired that she was and smiled a little.

"I guess you're right."

"Aren't I always?" She smiled back, the kid was growing on her. "Anyway, it's going to get dark soon, you should head somewhere safe."

"I probably will after I met up with my guy. Thanks, though, for everything. Well, except for beating my face in," Silas smirked a little.

"Ah, no prob. Just remember to pick on someone your own size next time." Silas nodded before waving and walking off. He wished she wouldn't be leaving so soon but supposed he understood. If you live the thug life, you can't stay in one place for long.

Drawing other's attention as the only foreign girl in the club, and leading men on only to crush their hopeless dreams of having a chance with her. Tonight, however, she hadn't really came here for herself. She came in hopes that Ami would get drunk enough and find a new bed mate.

As much as Vanity enjoyed her friend's company, she was becoming a little too clingy. That was one of the unfortunate drawbacks of sleeping with friends, someone always grew an attachment. Vanity didn't really want to dump Ami completely, she was a pretty good friend, but she did want to show her that Vanity was not the only person she could mess around with. So far her plan seemed to be working, and Ami was on the dance floor grinding on whoever she wanted. Vanity watched her a bit before turning around and pulling out her phone, answering text messages.

It wasn't long, however, until she felt a pair of slender arms wrap around her shoulders, and she could smell Ami's favorite perfume.

"Vanity~" She purred out, her voice sounding a bit slurred, "I think I'm going to head out. Those cute girls wanna meet up at Angel House. Wanna join us?"

Angel House was a love hotel a few blocks down, so Vanity knew exactly what was going to go down. She smirked, and shook her head. Any other night she might have took the offer to sleep with three cute girls, but she just wasn't in the mood tonight.

"Nah, you go ahead. Try to text me when you get home tonight, though. Or at least call me in the morning so I know you're safe."

"Kk! You're soooo sweet, Vanity! Sext you later!" With that Ami placed a sloppy kiss against the taller girl's cheek and bounced away towards her new 'friends'. Vanity couldn't help but be a little amused as she wiped the pink lipstick off her cheek. As she poured herself another drink she began to wonder when she should go home herself. It was going on 2 am, and while she didn't have to go to school later, she did have to be at the salon by noon to help Bella out with some cleaning.

It usually took Vanity two hours to get ready in the mornings, so realistically she would have to be up by nine. If she left now she would be him by 2:45 and in bed by 3:05. As she did the math in her head and tried to decide if she could make it on six hours of sleep, she almost didn't notice the bartender sitting a completely different drink down in front of her. She looked up at him curiously, to which he pointed down the bar,

"From the gentleman in the suit." Sitting seven seats down from her was indeed a man in a suit. He looked like he could have been in his 50s, and had greying hair. Vanity also took noticed of the scars on his face. They weren't too bad, but they were obviously old. She also counted six gold rings on his left hand, and a very expensive watch on his right arm. He was already looking at her and smiled, hands folded in front of him.

Vanity could tell this meant one of two things. He either was a rich man who thought he could buy her, or he had criminal connections. She looked at the colorful drink in front of her, wondering what she should do, before finally getting up, grabbing it, and walking over to the man.

"I can't be bought, you know." She said as she casually sat next to him. He chuckled a bit,

"Oh? My apologies if it seemed like that. I can assure you, dear, that I'm as interested in women as you are in men. I just thought I'd make a friendly gesture to my competitor." Vanity was taken aback, first by the fact that she had just met a gay man. She was almost convinced Japan didn't have those. Then it was because she vaguely realized her situation. If this man was referring to her as a competitor, then there was no way he was making an honest living.

She tried not to look panicked as she finally took a sip of the drink, which did taste pretty nice. This man obviously had to be higher up on the ladder than her, so if she pissed him off or was muscling in on his turf, she would be dead by morning. How did he even find her? He had to have an informant, and he had to have known she was coming here tonight. Then again, there weren't too many Americans in the town, and even less sold drugs, so she wouldn't have been too hard to find.

"Competitor, eh? You flatter me. I just sell to stupid school kids looking to have a good time, and addicts who fail to even pay me on time. I didn't even know this was someone else's territory. I can find somewhere else to sell." She was too afraid to even look at him, and instead rested her chin in her palm to look in front of her.

"Is that so? I'm curious, though, how much do you make a week?" Vanity thought about lying, but knew that would be incredibly stupid. He already knew.

"Around 50,000 yen. Maybe a little less." She shrugged.

"That's pretty impressive for someone your age. How would you like to make 500,000 yen a week?" She gave him a side look, a little curious and surprised. He went on, "Ah, where are my manners? My name is Haruki Ito." He held his hand out for her to shake, which she did, his smile never faltered.

"I run a pretty large underground business.  We do a lot of things, but most of it is what you're already doing now. I noticed our profits had been going down in the past few months, and then I heard it was because of you. I won't lie, I did think about having you put down, but you're too young for that." Vanity wasn't sure if she appreciated his honesty or not, but was glad her suspicions had been correct. "So I decided to meet with you instead. You are quite something. When I was your age I was lucky to make 10,000 yen doing what you're doing."

"Times were probably different back then, though. Drugs weren't too popular then. I'm not really that special." Vanity shrugged and took another drink. Haruki laughed and nodded,

"I suppose you're right. It wasn't until the 70s that all of it really took off. Don't doubt yourself, though. You do have a talent. That's why I'd rather you come work for me. You'd get a 50% cut of all profit made. Of course you are free to decline. If so, I do suggest you keep your promise and move your business somewhere else."

Vanity thought about it. It could end badly for her if she said no, but she also wasn't sure if she wanted to get too involved with this guy. That could be even more dangerous. Saying no possibly wouldn't just effect her, though. If this guy had contacts, then he knew everyone she was close to and was in contact with. Bella could get hurt too. Besides...that was a lot of money...She traced the edge of the glass, before finally looking back at the older man.

"Yeah, sure. When do I start?"

In certain situations she didn't mind to talk and be friends with guys, but all together she wasn't too fond of them.

Men just weren't her thing. Even as a lesbian she had too many experiences with fuck boys. Not to mention she had seen plenty of guys play women and cheat on them, and that just left a bad taste in her mouth. Vanity would be the first to admit she was not a good person, but she would never cheat. After talking to that girl on the rooftop, it was clear to Vanity that Japanese men were no different than the fuck boys back home.

Vanity sighed as she heard the lunch bell ring, and looked over at her friend Ami who sat beside her. Ami was one of the few people she had met that she didn't care to hang around, mostly because she was about as cynical and a bully as much as Vanity was. Not only that but Ami was one of the only other lesbians she had met since coming to Japan. Even though she wasn't ready to be in another relationship, Vanity didn't have a problem with having sex. And since Ami didn't want to be in a relationship either, they had a nice friends with benefits thing going on.

At the moment the two sat on one of the benches outside, smoking and chatting. Vanity stretched her arms above her head as she spoke,

"Wanna head into town for some food?" The two rarely ate at the school, mostly because they didn't want to be around the student body of losers. Ami thought about it as she filed her chipped blue nails, before shrugging,

"Eh, I think we shouldn't today. One of the shops called the school about us skipping. My dad found out and tore my ass." Vanity frowned and shook her head, Ami came from a relatively abusive home. So it was highly possibly that by 'tore' she meant 'beat'.

"What an asshole. Do you know which shop? We could break their windows tonight for snitching."

"Heh, I wish. They were anonymous though, so I have no idea who it was. Anyway, lets just hit up the vendors around campus, I'm hungry." Vanity inwardly groaned, but had to admit she was hungry too. Plus the food the vendors sold were actually pretty good, and she could usually find something she liked. She jerked on her leather jacket she had brought because it had been chilly that morning and the two began to walk to the middle of the campus.

It wasn't a surprise that the place was crowded, but Vanity felt annoyed as she felt people immediately began to stare at her. It wasn't like she didn't like being the center of attention, be she could always tell who was judging her. She begrudgingly stuck her hands in her pocket and looked at Ami,

"Who do you think they're going to stare at more, you or me?" While Vanity was overly goth an sex on legs, Ami was Ganguro. This meant that not only was she much darker skinned than her classmates, she also had the bleach blonde hair and heavy makeup to match. She smirked and shrugged,

"Can you blame them? Compared to us they're so bland and sexless. Would it kill them to pick up a fashion magazine?" Vanity snickered and they continued to walk through the area, making fun of whoever they wished. Finally Vanity spotted a vendor selling Taiyaki, one of her favorite snacks and tugged on Ami's arm.

"Lets get some Taiyaki, I'll buy." Ami thought about it before shaking her head,

"You go ahead, I want to get some Takoyaki." She pointed to the opposite side of the clearing where the vendor was, and Vanity nodded,

"Aight. I'll meet you by the entrance then and we can go the machine for drinks. Ami agreed before unlocking their arms and walking off. Vanity then headed towards her own food stand and frowned when she saw the relatively long line. From the looks of it it would take a good ten minutes before she could get her food, and she didn't really like the thought.

Rolling her eyes she walked past the line, and then hip checked the girl in front out of her way before she could order. The vendor himself looked horrified, but Vanity already knew he wouldn't say anything. The Japanese were the type to never butt into these things, and even though the girl she pushed out of the way looked offended, Vanity knew she was too scared to say anything either. She was surprised, though, to hear someone behind her speak up.

"Hey, you can't do that. It's first come first serve you know." Vanity set her jaw and turned around to face the guy who dare say anything to her. She wrinkled her nose at him, he was about her height and had light brown hair, and looked very annoyed.

"Does it look like I care, loser?"

"Not really, kinda like how you don't care how awful your appearance is. This school has a dress code for a reason, maybe you should pick up a school handbook and read it." Vanity did not appreciate the attitude she was getting from this guy, and the students behind him seem to sense her irritation as they all began to disperse. Vanity smirked and pushed the guy,

"Dress codes are stupid, and I'll sooner kill myself before I follow one. If you're smart you'll shut up before I knock your teeth down your throat." The guy didn't seem very threatened and rolled his eyes,

"Disgusting. It's almost sad that you're so stereotypical. Girls like you are so-"

"So what?" Vanity glared at him and took a step closer, daring him to finish his sentence. Before he could, however, the two were interrupted by Ami, who had already got her got her food and had come over when she noticed the commotion.

"What's going on here?" She easily took notice of Vanity's pissed off attitude and developed one of her own. The guy looked at her and shook his head,

"Why am I not surprised you two are friends?"

"What's it to you, Yagami?" Ami glared at him as well.

"Nothing, it's just unfortunate that decent people have to share a space with delinquents like you. If you guys hate this place so much, why are you even here?" Ami was about to argue back but Vanity stopped her, realizing something,

"Wait, Yagami? As in Light Yagami?" The guy, Light, raised an eyebrow,

"Yes? Why?" Vanity felt slight rage go through her body, and her glare became even more icy.

"So you're the fucking prick who likes to mess with girls, huh? Wow, and you say I fit my stereotype? You're classic "Banana-Nerd Fuck Boy" if I've ever seen one." Light looked a little taken aback now, and Ami looked up at Vanity curiously. Vanity didn't let up and continued her verbal attack,

"I mean seriously! You think you're a decent person? You're worse than I am! What kind of asshole cheats on their girlfriend?! That's fucked up on so many levels! Ugh! And all because you think you're so good looking, right?" At this point a crowd had gathered around them, and Vanity nodded some of the girls cheering her on.

"What do you know? You're just a street thug. You don't know what you're talking about. So can you take your gross girlfriend and leave?" Ami looked a little offended and Vanity froze,

"What the fuck did you say?"

"I said, take your gross girl-" Before Light could finished Vanity punched him square in the face. He let out a sound of pain and fell to his knees, clutching his nose.

"That's for Ami, and this," She kicked him hard, finally hearing his nose crack, "is for Maki. If I ever hear you disrespect another girl I swear I'll beat your ass." The crowd began to panic a little and Vanity heard one of them saying they were going to get a teacher, which was Vanity's cue to go. She grabbed Ami's arm and pulled her away, and the two ended up exiting the school.

After they were a block away they stopped to catch their breath, afterwards Ami handed Vanity some Takoyaki, smirking a little,

"I can't believe you just beat up the most popular guy in school." Vanity grunted and took a bit of the food, biting into it casually,

"He deserved it. The fucking asshole."

"Yeah but still." Ami laughed before kissing the taller girl's forehead, "Thanks for protecting my honor."

Vanity blushed but shook it off, smirking herself, "Yeah yeah, don't let it go to your head."

"Who's Maki by the way? Another girlfriend?" Vanity shook her head as the two began to walk down the sidewalk,

"No. I mean she's cute but she's obviously straight. I met her a few days ago on the roof, she's pretty nice. She just broke up with Light, he cheated on her." Ami nodded, understanding, before wrapping her arm around Vanity's,

"She's not cuter than me though, right? I'm your super cute best friend, don't forget it." Vanity rolled her eyes playfully,

"What did I say about letting it going to your head?" As the two laughed and continued to walk into town, Vanity wondered if Maki would ever hear about what happened, but then shook it off. The two would probably never even speak again, but Vanity hoped she would be pleased at Light getting his ass handed to him.

She missed L.A., she missed her friends, and she missed Emily...As her mind traveled back to the blonde Vanity's eyes wandered to the razor blade that sat next to her. All it would take was a deep cut, or she could throw herself off the roof.  Did she really want to do those things though? Not even she was sure anymore. The only thing she knew was that razor blade had become her best friend during the past four months. She sighed and tilted her head back to look up at the sky, letting her thoughts wander further.

After a while, the door to the rooftop opened and out stepped a Japanese girl. She didn't seem to notice Vanity at first, as she was talking on her cellphone, but once she hung up, the two made eye contact. Vanity froze, she hadn't been expecting anyone else to come up here yet. Most students were in class at this time. Trying to hide her shock she frowned before flicking her cigarette to the ground and stomping on it, then she stood up. Putting her hands on her hips she glowered at the girl, "What are you doing here, dork?"

The girl blinked in surprise, though it wasn't clear if it was because of the insult or because she was also taken back by seeing another person on the roof. However, she recovered from her surprise quickly and responded. “I had to make a call and voices still carry even when the other students are in class. So I came up here for some quiet.” It was then her eyes moved towards the ground where all the cigarettes were. She stared at them for a moment before looking back up at Vanity. “It honestly doesn't surprise me that you're a smoker. Kinda got that vibe from your first impression. But you know, you really shouldn't be smoking on school grounds.”

"Tch..."Vanity rolled her eyes before sitting back down on her bench, crossing her legs and making her short skirt ride up even more, "Yeah? Well I shouldn't be skipping class or have dyed hair either. Don't tell me what to do. Do you even realize you you're talking too?" Who did this brat even think she was? She looked vaguely familiar, and Vanity thought she had seen her before, but honestly wasn't sure.

The girl raised her hands in defense as she smiled a little. "Don't worry, I'm not some teacher's pet whose trying to get you in trouble or anything. Frankly it's none of my business how you live your life. I'm just warning you. Teachers do come up here and patrol sometimes and leaving the evidence all over the ground is a good way to get caught."

"Oh..." Vanity looked at the ground, and counted twelve cigarettes. That was going to be a pain to clean up...She didn't want to actually get kicked out, that would put stress on Bella. "Thanks..I guess." She turned her head and looked away a little embarrassed.

"It's no problem," the girl laughed a little. "Oh, I'm Maki, by the way. Maki Suzuki," she then bowed.

"I'm Vanity." Vanity didn't bother to go through the formalities of bowing. She got that it was their culture, but not hers. Reaching up she took out the cigarette she had on her ear, and lit it up. She supposed she might as well have one last one before cleaning up her mess. "So are you going to chill here or what? If it was me I wouldn't bother heading back in now."

“I'll probably just sit up here till class ends. I don't really think I can handle going back anyway,” Maki sighed and made her way over to the railing to look out over campus. “You probably don't really care but my boyfriend and I are having issues. He's in my next class and I just don't feel like looking at him right now.”

"Oh?" Vanity had to admit, she was a little interested, relationship drama was always interesting. She shrugged, "Do tell. I'm always curious to hear how straight couples fight."

Maki blinked a little before laughing. “I assume straights and gays have similar relationship problems. Well, except when it comes to sex, I guess,” she awkwardly rubbed the back of her neck. “Anyway, I don't really know. Things were going great between us for a while then all of the sudden it's like he wants nothing to do with me.”

"Is that so?" Vanity leaned back and thought for a moment, before looking back at Maki, "Do you want me to be blunt about it?" Maki seemed hesitant for a moment before nodding.

"He's cheating on you." She took a drag and let out a cloud of smoke casually, "I don't cheat myself, I find it disgusting, but I do have friends who do, and that's usually what they start doing. They grow distant. Two hour phone calls turn into three text messages a day, there's no more affection, and before you know it, you're kicked to the curb. Men are pigs, so it's no surprised." Vanity would have felt bad by how harsh she was about it, but honestly there wasn't really a way to put it nicely. Maki didn't seem like an annoying person, and so far was on her good side. She deserved to know. Though, she did seem hurt by those words and almost seemed like she was going to cry. But she didn't. She just turned her attention back towards campus.

“That's what my friends have told me, too. They've even told me to look through his phone to see if he is talking to other girls but I just don't think that's right. I don't know, maybe I could try talking to him, see what he says.”

"You do you home skillet, but honestly if he even under the suspicion of being an lying asshole, then you have every right to snoop through his shit. If you are wrong, and he isn't, then if he really loves you he'll forgive you." Vanity watched the girl carefully, she had to admit she felt a little bad for her. "...I know it sucks. Before I came here me and my girlfriend broke up. It hurt, a lot, but I'm still here. So if it doesn't work out, I think you'll be ok....And since you were nice enough to help me out, if he is cheating on you, point him out and I'll kick his ass."

Maki laughed at the last part. “Thanks, girl, I'll keep that in mind. And I'm sorry about your girlfriend. Did she cheat on you?”

"Honestly...I don't know. She broke up with me because I was moving here, and she didn't want to wait the two years for me to come back. One of my friends told me she's with someone else now, so I wouldn't be surprised if she was. I just thought... she loved me enough to never do that, and to wait." Vanity felt her own tears threatened to spill over but quickly push them back. She then snuffed out her final cigarette and began to pick up the ones on the ground. "Jokes on me I guess. I probably deserved it for being the kind of person I am. Karma and shit."

Maki watched her for a bit before kneeling down and helping her with the mess. “I don't think you deserved it. I just think she was selfish enough to put herself before you. In a relationship, it's not all about one person. It's about both people, equally, and if she couldn't see that then the joke's on her because she's missing out on what an awesome person you'll be in the future.”

Vanity was shocked, no had ever really said something that nice to her before. Or at least something that genuine. She felt heat rising on her cheeks and quickly turned her head away, "T-thanks I guess, but don't get it mixed up. I may be super dope, but I'm not a good person. I'm the scary delinquent that parents warn their kids about, got it? So don't go thinking I'm nice or anything." She couldn't help but pout as she stood up and walked over to the trash can, dumping the trash in and shaking the ashes off her hands, "Besides, your boyfriend is the one who's going to miss out. You're the nice girl here, so it will definitely work out for you in the future."

Maki did the same as she smirked a little. “I'm sure you're not as bad as you want others to think. You have potential, you just have to learn where to use it.”

Vanity laughed a little, "Well you're the first person to think so."

Maki smiled but before she could say anything more, the bell rang, indicating class was over. "I suppose I should be getting back," Maki sighed. "I can't run from my problems forever. It was nice to officially meet you, though," she bowed again.

"Same." Vanity shrugged, "Hope it works out for you. Tell you what, my cousin runs a salon downtown, if shit hits the fan stop by and we'll give you a free makeover."

"I'll keep that in mind. Thanks again." And with that, Maki headed back inside, though she seemed to be a lot happier than she was earlier. Vanity watched her go and then hopped up on the railing to sit on it. What a nice kid. Too nice for the things she was having to deal with. Vanity subconsciously decided to keep an eye on her for awhile, until everything settled itself at least. After a bit she slid off the rail, deciding that heading into town for some food actually wasn't that bad of an idea.
